Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT)

Any eye examination should always include a careful look at the retina.

The retina is located at the back of the eye, and includes the macula. The macula, the area of clearest vision in the eye, receives the light coming into the eye. It transforms the light energy to electrical energy which is transmitted to the brain through the optic nerve.

Early detection of any retinal abnormality is crucial.

The sensitive tissue that makes up the retina is susceptible to a variety of diseases that can ultimately lead to partial loss of vision or even complete blindness.

Here is an OCT of Post Cataract Surgery Cystoid Macular Oedema

Post Cataract Surgery Cystoid Macular Oedema consists of fluid-filled cysts that form within the retina causing the retina to be swollen. This is usually noticed as blurry or distorted vision.
